<furl:clipping>OPPONENTS of turbines across Wales were given a boost yesterday when an energy giant abandoned controversial proposals for a new wind farm.

E.on was granted permission to erect eight 280ft turbines on mountains overlooking Rhondda three years ago but has ditched the scheme following concerns over noise nuisance from the 10 megawatt project.

Everyone’s been sold on this technology and nobody cares about a bunch of birds.”

<furl:clipping>New has been breaking regarding corruption on the Canary Islands linked to the generation of wind power. Recordings made of conversations between the ex General Director for Industry of the Canary Regional Government. Celso Perdomo, and several businessmen have now come to light, following the first indications of corruption dating back to 2004 and 2005.
Now the prosecutor is calling for a six year prison sentence for Perdomo.

<furl:clipping>FCC could invest in listed energy companies as part of a plan to expand into the energy sector, Falcones said, but FCC had not held talks with Spanish power company Iberdrola (IBE.MC: Quote, Profile, Research) or its major shareholders to this end.

Iberdrola is seen as a possible bid target in the consolidation of the Spanish energy sector.
