Furl's Commitment to Our Members

We hope that you expect a lot from Furl and the people who bring it to you. You should. If you are using Furl to its fullest, then you're entrusting us with some of your most valuable information. We recognize that trust and are committed to maintaining it.

You can expect us to work our hardest to ensure that your information is private when you mark it private, secure from misuse and always available.

Privacy

Privacy is probably a top priority for you. It certainly is for us at Furl. When you mark an item "private," we respect your expectation that no one else will be able to see its contents. Other members cannot see your private items when they view your archive, and Furl Search (search all archives) is restricted to public items only. We have designed the Furl system to ensure that your private items and topics are secure. We will not sell your email address or privately-stored information, nor share it except in very specific cases described in our Privacy Policy.

Access to the servers that house your archive is restricted to a very small number of employees. Procedures strictly prohibit accessing a member's information, except when necessary to diagnose a problem or as specified in our Privacy Policy (such as when ordered by a court of law).

We're members of Furl, too, and demand the utmost respect for privacy.

Security

When you're saving and sharing information with Furl, we do not want you to worry about whether it's safe from hackers, spammers and other unsavory types. We devote substantial resources to protecting your archived information and the entire Furl system from security threats. While no online system is perfectly secure, we have designed our security to include multiple layers of technological and human safeguards.

Security requires your vigilance as well. Maintaining a secret and hard-to-guess password is a critical first step. Remembering that emails you send are never completely secure is another. We encourage you to learn more about online security at the FTC's Consumer Information site .

Availability

We realize you use Furl every day because it's really useful. We believe Furl should be available as close to 100% of the time as possible. That's why we have added redundant back-up servers that can carry the load if any primary Furl servers have temporary problems. Furl also runs on open-source technologies such as Java and Linux, which are renowned for their reliability.

There may be times when some or all of the service requires maintenance and will be temporarily unavailable. We are committed to making those situations rare, brief and predictable. Something as useful as Furl needs to be available whenever you need it.

Finally, we want to reiterate an important promise in our Terms of Service: if changes to the public or private archive storage limit require that you remove some items, Furl will provide you with ten days notice so that you can, if you wish, download items from your archives.
